The sun is shining, the weather is hot… can this mean that summer has actually arrived?

Let’s look at the evidence:

  1. I’ve had a cricket game rained off
  2. I have bought factor 30 suncream
  3. I was trying on Oakley’s yesterday
  4. I am wearing shorts
  5. and also flip flops

The evidence is pretty conclusive, summer has indeed arrived.

recovery from op

21 04 2008

shoulder op seems to have gone well, things getting better everyday. Got about 4 weeks of physio left to go through. There is a small piece of suture left behind in one of my wounds… i’m sure that’s not cool.

I have four little crosses on my left shoulder to match the three on my right - perhaps I should get some tattoos in the areas. suggestions?

study

21 04 2008

it took me 8 hours to sort out my study yesterday. I am extremely happy that it is (finally) a useable room. I am writing this blog from the newly installed wireless connection… get me, I’m so IT literate!! Then again, it’s not really that hard to install a wireless dongle.

The study used to contain boxes of book, papers and stuff that i’d collected over the past 10 years (I’d not unpacked it since moving in on 0ct 2006). I threw away* 3 bin bags full of paper alone, and now the 10 years worth of stuff is less and sat neatly on shelves.

Any bets as to how long the study remains spotless once my sister returns from a course?? Currently it’s at 36 hours though i’m inclined to think it may be less.

Luke the dog

Luke the dog is a small grey fluff ball that now lives with me. We got him a week ago today, figured that with all my time off at the mo it would be an ideal time to get a puppy. I can spend the time getting him settled in to the house.

He came from a farm in Marple, Cheshire and spent his first 7 weeks living in a barn with his brothers and sisters. I’ve been after a collie pup for a few months but i really didn’t want a black and white one (already had two of those), so when i saw the ad for ‘blue merle’ collie pups I was intrigued.

10 mins of research later and I was almost an expert in coat colours of border collies! The merle gene is a dominant gene that causes patchiness of the colour and it can happen in any coat colour - Luke is a black collie with the merle gene, hence the patchiness, grey colouring and blue eyes. I’d never heard of this before - most people haven’t got a clue what breed of dog he is! I kinda like that, i don’t want a boring looking dog…

shoulder

27 03 2008

it’s been almost 2 weeks since my op now and things are fine. To be honest I’d learned loads from the last time I had a similar op (on the other shoulder) and i made damned sure not to make the same mistakes again!

This time I stayed in hospital overnight as it was the first night that really left an imprint in my mind last time. Didn’t do too badly, didn’t use much morphine and managed to sleep quite a bit. I was impressed by how often the nurses came in to do their checks, they were even straight there when i needed another blanket… god bless them.

Everyday after that saw my shoulder get increasingly better and now i’m in the position that my mobility has increased so much i am frustrated with the sling - i keep taking my arm out to do stuff. well only another week to go and it should be able to stay out!!

stiches came out 2 days ago it’s all healed really neatly - a credit to the surgeon.

roll on the next week…

food

work stresses

10 03 2008

I have work coming out of my ears and nothing I do seems to make a dent in any of it - this is really starting to stress me out. Kids are noticing that I look tense and stressed, surely this cannot be a good thing.

I’ve been really enjoying not being a form tutor for a week or so and now I have been put on registering a form in the lower school. They are nasty. I do not like having to do their register. I liked drinking coffee at 835 and not having to attempt to silence 26 12/13 year olds.

second life????????

5 03 2008

Am currently playing with second life and it seems to be a most un-userfriendly site. I was expecting fabulous 3-D conversations with strangers but instead I am welcomed with a frustrating menu page. Navigation appears difficult, if not nigh-impossible

shoulder

2 03 2008

turns out shoulder is more damaged than I thought. Looks like it’s dislocated a few times and I have an unhealed fracture. Would explain why it hurts so much. I am confused as to why injuries to my joints that turn out to be nasty don’t really hurt at all (well not at the time of injury anyway) - they make me feel sick. Really sick. It’s a very strange sensation. I feel a thud then I feel very odd - perhaps it’s not like feeling sick at all, more like a sense of dred mixed with being dazed. Whatever it is, it means I’ve really hurt myself.

Surgery awaits for me in a few days… I’m a physical wreck, contact sports are not good to me.
